Driving in the UK
Au-pairs who will be driving in the UK or abroad have to make sure that they bring with them a valid international driving licence.
Because the British road system is different to the European (driving on the left, different speed limits etc.) the host family should consider giving to the Au-pair a copy of the Highway Code and perhaps arranging a few driving lessons for them.
The family should give the Au-pair the opportunity to show them that they are a competent driver.
It is of course essential that the family provides the Au-pair with information about what to do in case of breakdown.
