Au-Pair Definition
An Au-pair is a single male or female aged between 17 and 27 inclusive, without dependants who comes to the United Kingdom and lives as a member of an English speaking family for up to two years.
- The Au-pair receives free board and lodgings with a host family.
- The Au-pair must have their own room and be given the opportunity to study and attend religious services if they wish.
- In return the Au-pair helps the host family with childcare and light housework.
- The Au-pair help is limited to 5 hours per day with at least two full days off per week.
- The Au-pair is also expected to baby-sit for 2 nights a week.
- The Au-pair receives weekly pocket money (recommended amount £65 - £90 per week, £65 is the payable minimum).
Nationalities included in the UK Au-pair Scheme: 22 member states of the EU including (Cyprus, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Slovak Republic, Slovenia), Andorra, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Faroe Islands, Greenland, Liechtenstein, Macedonia, Monaco, Romania, San Marino and Switzerland.
Please note that only EU nationals can qualify for the Au-pair+(plus) category (the Au-pair + definition is the same as above apart from the hours of help which are between 26 and 35 per week and 2-3 nights babysitting per week) . |
